IT Service Desk Engineer (2nd and 3rd Line)

Our customer is a technology services provider currently seeking a skilled Linux System Administrator to join its IT Support Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing deployment and operations support. Contractor will primarily be responsible for systems administration and network engineering, providing configuration, deployment and troubleshooting of software services. This position may include limited after-hours call-in support for recovery from unplanned outages.



Bachelor Degree or higher in a technical area with 2 years of specialized experience.



  • Identify communication path from server to fielded server
  • Document the messaging infrastructure for communication path
  • Run scripts
  • Diagram planning
  • Review test plans/procedures and System Security Plans for networks
  • Deploy server applications
  • Configure applications to use the messaging infrastructure
  • Run messaging verification tests
  • Experience providing production operations support and 24/7 support


Technical Skills

  • Strong Red Hat Linux background – certification preferred
  • Systems and Network Administration experience, user authentication, network configuration and management
  • Knowledge and experience with Java Messaging Service (JMS) messaging, ssh, firewalls, and VMWare
  • Familiarity with network hardware and configuration (Cisco, Arista, others), routing requirements, mission hosting
  • Experience with domain name service, Network time Protocols, enterprise messaging, and file forwarding service
  • Scripting languages to include bash shell scripting
  • Monitoring and support using tools such as IPM
  • Server and network security
  • Experience with UNIX and Shell scripting, Perl, PHP, Javascript, JSON, Python
